Coming into 2019 following a close home win against the Sacramento Kings, the Lakers hold a record of 21-16, standing as the 6th seed in the Western Conference. Following an incredible Christmas day win against the Warriors at home, the Lakers were diagnosed with 2 key injuries: Rajon Rondo and LeBron James. Since, they’ve held a record of 1-2.

The loss of Lebron in an unfortunate one, but being overly reliant on him at 34 years old is a recipe for disaster.

With Javale McGee just recently returning, it’s been an uphill, but improving journey as the young Lakers learn to play without 2 of their prominent leaders. The loss of Lebron in an unfortunate one, but being overly reliant on him at 34 years old is a recipe for disaster.

Rondo provides a vital playmaker who can consistently create opportunities in the half-court.

As evident in the second half of the Warriors game, Rondo provides a vital playmaker who can consistently create opportunities in the half-court. With him out for up to 5 weeks, Brandon Ingram (21/9/6) and Lonzo Ball (13/6) picked up the assisting load to help generate shots against the Kings.

In other news, Lakers rookie Svi Mykhailiuk recently poured in 47 points on 16/23 shooting (69.5%) shooting for the South Bay Lakers. While the competition may not be as tough, it is an incredible feat nonetheless, and shows his increasing confidence as both a shooter and scorer. So much so, that even LeBron gave him a shout-out on Twitter as a vote of support.

Hopefully, this breakout performance will expedite his adjustment to the big leagues.

Mykhailiuk was one of the best players at Summer League as a rookie, and he may be the best pure shooter the Lakers have. In his limited minutes with the Lakers, Svi has shot a promising 36.2% from 3 and played solid defense, but often times shows trouble adjusting to the speed of the NBA game. Hopefully, this breakout performance will expedite his adjustment to the big leagues. If not for anything else, he shot 10/11 from the FT line in his recent performance, a skill that the Lakers could desperately use.

Production from a young, athletic, and offensively talented wing like Mykhailiuk could help make a world of difference.

With the injuries of Rondo and James, the Lakers need as much help as they can get. Production from a young, athletic, and offensively talented wing like Mykhailiuk could help make a world of difference. Perhaps giving him an opportunity in the upcoming games could reap many benefits, especially for a team suffering from key injuries like the Lakers.
